I’m a Loughborough lass born and bred, so St Mary’s has been my church since the tender age of 6. I’ve done all the usual things – Sunday school, choir, serving, chalice assistant – but last year things started to get interesting! I joined a ‘just-for-Lent’ housegroup, (having never prayed or read the Bible properly – those were just for Sunday weren’t they?) with the aim of stopping after six weeks if I didn’t like it. Well, I’ve been much blessed since then – the group has continued; I read a daily devotional to kick start my day, and I understand for the first time what it means to really pray….and see those prayers answered. I have a much more personal relationship with God – and He plays a much bigger role in my life.

I helped to lead my first service at St.Mary’s on Christmas Eve, something I’ve always shied away from as it’s pretty scary at the front! But to me, that’s just another way God is directing my life – showing that ordinary folk can be involved in ministry without wearing a dog-collar. I’m a bit scared, but can’t wait to see what He wants me to do next!
