There are over thirty DNA-ers across the UK (during 2006/07 two of which will be based at Emmanuel and St. Mary’s and hopefully more in future years). For eleven months they live with hosts and spend their time something like this:
• Around four days a week using gifts to serve God in the church. This can be in any area, or mix of areas, a DNA-er feels called but might include such things as children and youth work, music, student work, work amongst senior citizens, Alpha and other evangelism, social-action work, some form of sports ministry, pastoral care, preaching, small group leading and much, much more.
• Around two days top quality training or study per week (alternating between London and Loughborough)
• One day a week off
DNA also includes three week-long residential with all the DNA-ers, a short international trip (spending a couple of weeks working with churches abroad) and opportunities to help out at Christian festivals.
Each DNA-er has a discipler (to explore any questions that arise, spend time going deeper with God and that kind of thing). There's also a co-ordinator (who helps them plan their working time).
DNA-ers are also automatically registered as students and receive a credit certificate at the end of their time which can be used to gain access to a range of other qualifications.
