Richard Harries
Reader
Richard is a lifelong Christian, born in Bristol, but has lived in Loughborough for 34 years. He’s been associated with St Mary in Charnwood for some 25 years, where he has been variously, DCC secretary, churchwarden and deanery synod representative. He retired from the power generation industry in 2003 and, after two years training, was licensed as a Reader in October 2005. His interests include hill walking, history and transport.
Richard Meredith
Reader
Richard Meredith taught in independent boarding schools for 33 years - 20 of them as headmaster - before becoming the Church Mission Society Area Co-ordinator for the dioceses of Derby, Leicester, Southwell. At Emmanuel he is the advocate for CMS and encourages and co-ordinates the advocates of the other mission agencies supported by the church to keep the world church on the agenda. At St Mary's, as a Reader since 1957, he is one of the team which devises, leads and speaks at services. When he is not organising he is gardening or enjoying classical music!
Laurence Emmitt
Reader
In 1997, Laurence was licensed as a Reader at St.Mary-in-Charnwood. He leads Worship and Preaches on a regular basis. He enjoys the full range of Services at St. Mary’s from the traditional Matins and Evensong to the All Age family services. He is particularly pleased that the church makes full use of the Church of England book of Common Worship. Laurence is passionately concerned about the cause of Church Unity. A retired Accountant he serves as Treasurer for Churches Together in Loughborough and as facilitator for a CTL Planning Group developing the Churches mission in Grange Park.
Vic Crowther
Reader
Reader, teacher, organist and musicologist, Victor has lived in the parish of Emmanuel since 1966. He came to Loughborough from Leeds to teach music at the College of Education, which became part of the University in 1977.
First licensed as a Reader by the bishop of Ripon, he has conducted services of Matins and Evensong in fifty parishes in the Diocese of Leicester, and served as occasional organist in a dozen local churches. His published writings include two monographs on Italian music (Oxford University Press) and scholarly editions of two 17th-century oratorios.
