Interregnum News! Announcing our new Rector!
We are delighted to announce that our new Rector will be Rev Michael Broadley. He is currently Team Vicar at St Marks Horsham. He and his family are planning to move to Loughborough during the school holidays in August and he will be starting some time in September - date to be confirmed. Please pray for him and his family as they prepare to move and also for the congregation at St Marks as they prepare for an interregnum. You may like to use our Interregnum Prayer in your prayers.

On Tuesday 15th June ReSource are holding a supporters' evening here at Emmanuel with lots of worship, prayer, coffee & biscuits, good teaching, refreshment and encouragement, news and challenge and we hope to see a fine bunch of people turn up, filled with Word and Spirit. Learning to Listen Course: Acorn Christian Healing Foundation - Starts 18 May 2010
This course is for anyone who wants to develop an awareness of good listening, acquire skills of active listening and an understanding of how these can be useful in everyday life at home, at work, within the church and in our local communities. The listening is three dimensional: listening to others, listening to ourselves and listening to God. Listening well to others improves the quality of our relationships; learning to listen to ourselves helps us grow in wholeness; and learning to listen to God helps us to deepen our spirituality. This is a course of four two and half hour sessions which gives a good introduction to the listening method. Because the learning is cumulative it is essential that people come to all four sessions. The venue - Emmanuel, Loughborough, LE11 3NW.

March Lunchtime Concert • Classic Rhythm

Classic Rhythm is a unique and exciting chamber group with a difference. Formed in 1992, this trio for flute, keyboards and percussion has already met with astonishing success, playing to sell-out audiences all over the UK as well as broadcasting on Classic FM and BBC Radio.
All three members are widely travelled musicians - between them they have performed at all the major concert venues in this country as well as travelling further afield to Europe, Ghana, Australia and Hong Kong and New Zealand.
Skilful arrangements of well-known classical favourites, set alongside an exceptionally wide variety of other pieces, have quickly established the group's popular appeal. The range of music, from original compositions to jazz and light arrangements, is complemented by the warm informality of the group on stage.
Audiences are always fascinated by the vast array of instruments, some familiar, some not! From marimba to tam-tam, from piccolo to cabasa, they are brilliantly woven into a sparkling afternoon's entertainment.

Giving thanks for the Emmanuel Story

As part of our annual Thanksgiving Celebrations we are holding a special weekend of thanksgiving on 27th and 28th February. We will start on the Saturday with a bring and share lunch at 12 noon followed by a range of displays and activites for all ages which will give us the chance to share and give thanks together for all that God has done for us over the past years.
The main activites in the afternoon will finish with tea and cake at around 3pm.
In the evening there will be a cafe style concert given by Adele Adshead accompanied by Tanvi Muir and Stewart Wood. More details to follow.

Journey to Bethlehem Family Event
Journey to Bethlehem is an event that takes place in Emmanuel Church every year, telling the amazing story of the birth of Jesus Christ to local schools. This year, we're running a family event where you will be able to meet all of the main characters in the Bible story whilst taking part in a treasure hunt. The event is taking place on Wednesday 9th December at 5.30 - 7pm at Emmanuel. It's set to be a very special evening so please come along, have fun and hear the great news of the birth of Jesus Christ! The family event is being run by Emmanuel as a pilot and we hope that many adults and children will come and then give us feedback as to how it worked. Special Service For All Those Who Have Been Bereaved
This Sunday 15 November at 4pm, Emmanuel Church will be hosting a service for all those who have been bereaved. This short quiet service will include the opportunity to have the names of loved ones read out, if people wish. Anyone attending will also be able to light candles in memory of their loved ones. The service will be followed by tea and the opportunity to talk with a member of our Bereavement Team if people would find that helpful. Anyone is welcome to attend. New Archdeacon of Loughborough Announced
David Newman, Rector of Emmanuel and St Mary's, Loughborough, has been appointed as the new Archdeacon of Loughborough, one of two Archdeacons in the Diocese of Leicester. The archdeaconry covers the western side of the dioces including the towns of Loughborough, Coalville, Ashby de la Zouch, Hinckley and Lutterworth, suburban areas ot the west and south of Leicester, and many rural communities. He will be part of the Bishop's senior staff and involved with encouraging the mission agenda of the diocese, strategic planning, appointments, care of the clergy and buildings etc. David and Helen's last sunday will be the first Sunday in October.
David writes; "We've really enjoyed our time in Loughborough over the last twelve years at Emmanuel and St. Mary's, and you will all continue to be very much in our hearst (not to mention our archdeaconry) as we move on. It probably won't be a complete surprise to many of you that we are leaving as there comes a time when it's good for us to have a new challenge, and for the church to have a new leader who can take it on to the next stage of its mission. However there are rather a lot of staff changes at the moment, and I know some of you are concerned about that. I share those concerns and would have likde to organize it differently, but sometimes events don't always work the way we'd hoped or planned. So over the coming weeks we will be working hard to put structures and people in place to ensure that as much of the life of Emmanuel can continue during the vacancy, and it will be made clear who is responsible for what. In the meantime, let us pray for each other, that we would be given the grace we need to embrace the challenges of the coming months."

Emmanuel FC's season continues with this away league match against Belgrave 'A' FC. Emmanuel last met Belgrave in the County Cup a couple of years ago and overcame on penalties after a hard fought 0-0 draw. Learning to Listen Course: Acorn Christian Healing Foundation - Starts 23 September 2009
This course is for anyone who wants to develop an awareness of good listening, acquire skills of active listening and an understanding of how these can be useful in everyday life at home, at work, within the church and in our local communities. The listening is three dimensional: listening to others, listening to ourselves and listening to God. Listening well to others improves the quality of our relationships; learning to listen to ourselves helps us grow in wholeness; and learning to listen to God helps us to deepen our spirituality. This is a course of four two and half hour sessions which gives a good introduction to the listening method. Because the learning is cumulative it is essential that people come to all four sessions. Comings and Goings
There are a number of changes in staff happening over
September at Emmanuel.
On September 1st, we welcomed Ruth Hutchinson as Leader of Youth Ministries.
Ruth, a former teacher, has been a member of the congregation for several yeasr and has been a regular leader of Utopia, the Friday night group for 14-18 year olds. She co-leads a youth cell and has also led several successful Youth Alpha courses. We look forward to seeing more of Ruth and wish her every success in her new post.
September 13th was Eleanor Jeans' last Sunday with us as Director of Music. She will be moving to Ridley Hall in Cambridge to train for ordination in the Church of England. "Thank you to all of you for your support over the past 4 years. I have felt very blessed to be with you all. Please pray for me in this transition from work to study!"
On September 14th Alison Walker took over as acting Director of Music. Alison is a long standing member of Emmanuel and has been Assistant Director of Music under the last two directors of music.
Kathryn Garnett is taking up the new role at Emmanuel of Leader of Children and Family Ministries. Kathryn has been a member of Emmanuel for two years and has a lot of experience of leadership and children from her previous parish. She is married to Chris and has two teenage children. Our ministry among youth and children will now be divided between her and Ruth Hutchinson with Kathryn overseeing the ministry to those up to the age of eleven and their families too.

All preparation is free and the sessions are hosted by one of the clergy and a couple of people involved in children’s work at Emmanuel.
