Big Kids is a community for those with a heart for family life, and who are prepared to be Big Kids themselves. It is primarily designed for those with primary school age children, and there is a strong emphasis on having fun together. We meet once a month on a Sunday afternoon, to engage in a shared activity. Activities might include kite flying on Beacon Hill, going for walks, scavenger hunts around the Outwoods, junk modelling challenges, learning magic tricks together, and indoor mini Olympics, with especial emphasis on physical activity for our active youngsters! We recognise that families come in all different shapes and sizes, and seek to encourage and support one another in a flexible way through the relationships we build within the group. The community is open to anyone to join, and we would love to have your suggestions for suitable activities for us to enjoy being Big Kids together.

Big Kids Launched.

The first meeting went well, with around 30 of us there (18 children and 13 adults). We played some board games (daft ones like Twister) and then went for a wander through the woodland there to find nativity booklets we hid in the trees, and then read the story of the nativity to each other from the booklets. It was lovely seeing families getting along so well, and chatting to people they didn’t really know so well. And at one point we looked around to find all the men looking after all the children! We then had hot chocolate and cookies before tidying up. We had several suggestions too for ideas for further meets. We will be meeting on the 4th Sunday of the month from 2-4pm and will be putting the details on the website as and when we know arrangements.  If you missed us this time feel free to join us you’d be very welcome to come along.  Once last reminder, this is not a community just for children, its for anyone who considers themselves to be a Big Kid.
