TBA (To Be Active, facilitated by Ros, Duncan, Christine, Keith, Ian, Jo and Phil) is a community for all ages and backgrounds.  We meet twice a month on Thursdays, usually 1st and 3rd, 7.30-9.30pm at Emmanuel Church Centre.  Meeting dates for Spring term 2009 are:  15, 29 January, 5 & 19 February and 5 & 19 March.

During Spring term 2009 the pattern for meetings is:

  • Drinks and meet in small sharing & discussion groups ( first hour).
  • Gather as a whole community - general fellowship, small group feedback, news, interviews, projects and other exciting activities (second hour).

There are 2 small groups at the moment. One is reading and discussing The Shack. This widely acclaimed novel helps us to understand God's engaging nature and his ability to crawl into our darkest nightmare with his love, light and healing. The other group is studying Mission-Shaped Spirituality. This book encourages us to discover a spirituality that invigorates and which can overflow from what we have received. It integrates personal relationship with God and the call to be witnesses of grace. Stories of journeys in Christian faith play a large part.

Summer & Autumn 2008 was a start-up period. We used various ways of getting to know each other, including a mini 'Desert Island Discs' and interviews where we found that many people are already engaged in various social or mission outreach activities.

We shared the joy and pain of people's lives and our experiences of God. Some met separately for prayer. The Community met every week over the summer for social gatherings which were happy occasions. Meetings for socials will continue to be an important part of the group.

We are a mixed bunch of folk, with various approaches to mission: some are already fulfilling a calling, such as full time evangelism and teaching excluded teenagers, and would welcome support of various kinds; others have specific active projects in mind; some want to
enable their 'ordinary' lives to be effective at witnessing in word and deed to others.
