David Newman
Team Rector
David has been Team Rector of Emmanuel and St. Mary’s since 1997 which means heading up the team ministry while having particular responsibility for leading Emmanuel. He is keen to see the church shaped for the mission demands of today, without losing the ongoing pastoral nurture of the congregations, old and new. He enjoys working with others, and is chair of the newly formed Loughborough Churches Partnership which has the membership of around twenty church fellowships in the town. He is also active in the wider diocese as chair of the House of Clergy, a sort of senior shop steward. It can mean rather a lot of meetings! David’s current ambitions now that cricket is a thing of the past, are to learn the whole of Mark's gospel, and finish climbing all the Wainwright peaks in the Lake District.Contact David HERE.
Helen Newman
Assistant Minister
Helen is a non-stipendary (that means she doesn’t get paid!) assistant minister on the team. She works 4 days a week in the parish and enjoys getting to know folk, sharing their journeys of life and faith and helping them to know more of the love of Jesus. Helen heads up the pastoral team and regularly preaches and leads worship. She is committed to reality and trying to communicate and live out Christain faith in ways that people understand! To relax Helen enjoys walking, finding new tea shops, seeing films and theatre going. She hates cricket and hankers after a fast car. Contact Helen HERE.
Barry Hill
Curate
Barry has been Curate at Emmanuel since June 2005. He comes from near Brighton where he used to work with flight simulators, via a few years training in Oxford. He is passionate about equipping all Christians to reach out to those around them with the good news of Jesus and loves seeing lives being transformed by God’s love and grace. As well as a more general role, focuses include student work, communications, Growing Leaders, Alpha and the gap year scheme, DNA. In his spare time, his interests include despairing over the progress (or lack of!) of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, cricket, badminton, watching films, politics and enjoying good food.
